Math is the language of the Universe. It is the universal language all ancient people groups spoke and articulated differently. This subject is a powerful unifier across all people groups. Unfortunately it has been taught terribly. Stripped of all its beauty and wonder math lessons have been regulated to mere algorithmic worksheets and processes that rely on rote memorization that do little else than accomplish a "percent grade" in a class and the content completely forgotten for the future.

I began tutoring to help students realize that math is actually a language and one we can use to interpret the world around us. This approach taps into our genuine wonder and fosters fortitude from the foundation of excitement. The culture of math instruction and education needs a drastic shift and I intend to do just that.

Meet Michael

I have been teaching and tutoring for four years and love getting to help individual students with their courses.

Whether they’re struggling with the basics or are wanting to go deeper, I want to support them in achieving their goals. I’m available to tutor a wide array of math and science courses; from pre-algebra to pre-calculus, from chemistry to life science, biology, geometry, and physics, I’m here to help!

our philosophy

Logic School of Math is a logical and language approach to math teaching. By helping students develop logical thinking skills and understanding the language of mathematics, we can teach abstract ideas more successfully.

It was easy to see in my children the almost innate ability to calculate. If I sit my children down and give each of my four children a piece of candy, but give one of them 2 pieces of candy there is an immediate reaction. The concept of more and less emerges almost as if came by human nature itself. If I give my 6 year old 12 chocolates and tell them they can only have some if they divide it evenly among their siblings, my six year old successfully divides the 12 chocolates into 4 equal groups of 3. It is obvious to me that calculation is taking place at a very young age. However, the language of calculation: 12/4 = 3 is not learned until later.

This means that math should be taught much like a foreign language. You already know what a cup of coffee is; but you may not know how to express your desire for one in another language. The internal logic of math is innate on some level and needs to be extended to the abstract language of operations, algebra, geometry and calculus that can then be utilized to understand the world around us and move forward in human knowledge and progress.
